William Chetcuti wins gold medal
Basketball: Maltese girls beat Iceland
Maltese shooter William Chetcuti has won a gold medal in Double Trap in the Small Nations Games, currently being held in Cyprus.
It is the first medal to have been won by the Maltese contingent.
Sports parliamentary secretary Clyde Puli called Mr Chetcuti to congratulate him.
Earlier Nicole Cremona and Nicky Muscat booked their place in the final of the 200m backstroke following this morning's heats at the Limassol Swimming Centre.
Basketball: Malta girls beat Iceland
The women’s basketball team beat Iceland 69-53 in their opening match at the Eleftheria indoor hall in Nicosia. Santino Coppa’s girls were in control right from the start and inspired by match top scorer Rebecca Brincat Thorensen, with 32 points, they ended up as comfortable winners.
