Two men were remanded in custody and another was allowed bail after they were taken to court to face drug trafficking charges today.

Victor Fenech, 37 of St Paul's Bay, was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to trafficking heroin within 100 metres of a school. The court was told that 10g of heroin were found on Mr Fenech and another 4g in his home.

Defence lawyer Franco Debono asked the court to appoint a probation officer to help the accused tackle his drug problem. Magistrate Miriam Hayman noted that the accused had suffered the problem for a long time. She remanded him in custody but appointed a probation officer to help him kick the habit

In the second case, Alan Tabone, 26, was accused of the possession of 85 Ecstasy pills while trying to enter a party at Paradise Bay last Sunday. He was granted bail against a deposit of €1,000 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Aphron Agius, 34 of St Julians, was denied bail after pleading not guilty to trafficking in 10g of heroin.

The prosecution objected to bail since the main witness is a neighbour.
