Updated: Fire fighters tackle apartment fire in Sliema

An elderly woman was treated for shock and smoke inhalation at Mater Dei Hospital after a fire broke out in her residence in St Margaret Street, Sliema, this morning. The blaze was noticed at about 11 a.m. as thick smoke was seen coming out of a balcony.

An elderly woman was treated for shock and smoke inhalation at Mater Dei Hospital after a fire broke out in her residence in St Margaret Street, Sliema, this morning.

The blaze was noticed at about 11 a.m. as thick smoke was seen coming out of a balcony. The Civil Protection Department sent two fire engines to the site.

A sitting room was destroyed by the flames while a wooden balcony was badly damaged.
