Gozo pub brand to expand to Budapest
Café Jubilee, a cafè bistro pub which was first set up in Victoria, Gozo and then extended to Malta, will open its first overseas outlet in Budapest, Hungary by the end of this year.
The venture will be carried out in a strategic partnership and joint venture with Corinthia Group and is set to position the Café Jubilee brand on the international map jointly with a company who has long international experience, with an outlet that reflects the brand experience which has made Cafè Jubilee so successful in Malta and Gozo.
"2009 marks the tenth anniversary of Café Jubilee and we are very proud that our journey which started in Victoria, Gozo just 10 years ago, has now taken us to mainland Europe. Of course, Budapest is our first breakthrough overseas and a very important milestone in our history and we are indeed thankful to Alfred Pisani, Chairman and CEO of the Corinthia Group for giving us this remarkable opportunity in opening our first international outlet in a property owned by Corinthia Group. However, our plans are bigger and we would like to see the Café Jubilee brand spreading in more countries," said Alex Scicluna, director of Cafè Jubilee.
The site for the new bistro pub in Budapest is a corner property located in the heart of the city on one of the main thoroughfares. The project is expected to be completed within the next few months after the complete refurbishment of the existing building, with an official opening earmarked for the end of this year.

In almost fifty years, that almost half a century, I have never come across a half-decent Maltese restaurant in London. Do I have to fly to Malta to taste a Kinnie and a pastizz? It is high time Maltese cuisine was represented in the world capital of foreign restaurants. Thanks to EU membership, a small Gozitan cafe` has opened in Budapest the beautiful. You think London isn't beautiful? Or lucrative enough? Come on guys. Take your fingers out.

And the rest of course.

Congratulations Cafe` Jubilee. After the sad Nadur debacle, I was hoping Gozo would pick herself up. I do not know the outlet but it sounds great, energetic, like only tiny Gozo can be. Jubilee!! Hurrah!!!!! Of course the connection with the Corinthia, already established in my beautiful Budapest (my last time there when it was still Soviet), helps enormously. But the humble beginning in Gozo got bigger in Malta. And now Hungary. That's not bad boys in a country dear country that specialises in cafes. The competiton will be stiff. That keeps you on your toes and gives you incentive. I now await a branch in Westfield, Europe's largest shopping centre two minutes walk from here. I promise I thing. You'll be kept on your toes there. http://www.visitlondon.com/attractions/shopping/westfield

May I join in congratulating Cafe` Jubliee. It's a success story and should be recognized as such. Though pseudo-American, it is run by true Maltese. Very much like Joseph Calleja. The experts are likening him to Pavarotti, however Joseph is pure brand Maltese. We need more of these successes in other fields too.

This is the way forward - for our buisness people. The Corinthia people and now also those behind the Jubilee concept - the way forward for the young enterprise and not so young of Maltese entrepreneurs. Looking for buisnes pastures beyond our shores - looking outwards rather than inwards. Others have done it before - perhaps not so many. For decades we have excelled as regards our human resources - our main asset. Let others cautiously follow suit - aided and spurted on by our EU membership

What fantastic news this is!
I recall reading about their plans some time ago and wondering recently if they had fallen through.
I wish them luck though I am sure that this added help from Corinthia group will increase their chances of success.
I am mainly familiar with their Gzira outlet but I've used the Valletta one too and their service and product is of consistently good quality. Plus the whole thing offers very good value which is still very welcome in a country which boasts some excellent restaurants and bars which however are overly pretentious when it comes to pricing sometimes.
Good luck.
