"...playing twentieth century music? I've heard that played by young students in Genova, Manchester, New York, Oslo and Cologne 30 YEARS AGO! And it happens everywhere."
I meant: except in Malta which by far has the worst art education in Europe and amongst the worst in the world (even worse than many African countries!). The best individuals have left and are enjoying a career abroad.

Veronica Attard:
Still haven't answered ANY of my questions and I don't expect them to be answered either.
"our artistic directors were chosen for their skills and competencies in their respective fields."
Are you saying Mr Frendo is an expert? Are you saying he's qualified as an arts director? What's his NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL track record? By international I don't mean things he's done for the Maltese government. Stop hiding behind words and give the exact facts.
What vision? This year's programme could have been copied from any tiny festival in Europe! Just open 'Gramaphone' and see! What's so visionary about it? : playing twentieth century music? I've heard that played by young students in Genova, Manchester, New York, Oslo and Cologne 30 YEARS AGO! And it happens everywhere.
The arts represented are very few. Rather than 'visionary' it's 'missionary'. Come on, for goodness' sake!
And lastly, who are the experts who chose these experts? There are NO experts in the Maltese cultural field (except some rare individuals). On the other hand there are a lot of people who are 'zattata'!
Bring in the Freedom Of Information act!

All our artistic directors were chosen for their skills and competencies in their respective fields. We have already stated that there was an open call in the newspapers. All artistic directors of the 2009 season were selected on the basis of their proven track record and expertise. The artistic vision of the artistic directors was one of the main criteria for their selection.

Veronica Attard :
1. So you're assuring us that Mr Frendo was is a highly qualified arts manager, and has managed art institution and festivals locally and abroad? For the size of the job, I'd imagine that nothing less is expected.
2. "There was an open call for all the Artistic Directors involved in MCCA events"
How do you become Artistic Director of an MCCA event? Are these hand-picked for their artistic and managerial excellence?
I'll be very reassured if you answer these question sincerely and won't be asking anymore stuff.

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra had prior commitments and are therefore unable to perform during the Malta Arts Festival.

There was an open call for all the Artistic Directors involved in MCCA events, in the newspapers last year. Applicants were shortlisted and called for interviews.Veronica Attard, PR, Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

A very well done for to the Council for taking such initiative and present th nation with some quality cultural activities. However, it is a pity that the "Malta Philharmonic Orchestra" is not present within the porgramme. I just wonder why?

Why does no one have the decency to answer me? Any hidden agendas...?

Could the government tell us how Mr Frendo was appointed Artistic Director? Have there been vacancies for the post? Transparenza please!
