At a landmark bar in St Francis Square, Victoria one can have three glasses of decent local wine, a bottle of sparkling water and a pint of local brew all for less than €5. And should the glass-boy inadvertently remove your glass before you finish your Averna, a refill is promptly proffered on the house. Also, the pastizzi that are sold next door are to die for. This much is all true!
Not true, however, is the statement made by the Prime Minister (May 22) "... that the 3.3-kilometre stretch (from the small picturesque village of San Lawrenz) to Dwejra had also been rebuilt".
That "stretch" is very much in the same state that the ravages of past winters have left it as evidenced by the weathered and crumbling masonry and rubble walls. What passes for a road surface challenges even the most sophisticated of vehicle suspensions by jarring the bones of all who travel along it.
Slightly out of touch, aren't we? Any claim for credit in having this road rebuilt should be withdrawn forthwith.
