Żminijietna appeals to the government and the Medical Association of Malta so that primary health care remains a priority. We believe that the primary health services that are given in public health centres are essential and should not be downsized because of other considerations.

Żminijietna - Voice of the Left does not agree with government's idea to outsource part of the Public Health Service to private entities, nor with MAM's approach to close more public health centres because of the shortage of doctors.

It would be better if the government invested more in primary health care rather than give money to private hospitals for the same service.

The government should shoulder responsibility for public health and should not support work practices wherein workers are not allowed to join a union. Our idea is that the government should solve the current conflict by consulting unions and the public, by increasing investment in the primary health sector and by improving working conditions of all employees in the health sector. We believe the government should consider increasing the obligatory service period in public health for graduates.
