Student interpreters visit EU institutions

Students on the University's Master's course in Interpreting Studies recently spent two days in Brussels conducting familiarisation visits to the European Commission and European Parliament.

At the Commission they attended a meeting on climate change where they had a full-day practical session in dummy booths. They also met Maltese ex-students who are now full-time interpreters with EU institutions.

The visit was organised as part of the course curriculum by the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies head Joseph Eynaud in collaboration with Helen Campbell from the European Commission and Alison Graves from the European Parliament.

Next month, for the second time running, the European Commission and European Parliament are holding accreditation tests for freelance interpreters at the Faculty of Arts's interpreters' laboratory.
