Air Malta has denied that negotiations on a new collective agreement for cabin crew are at a standstill.
In a statement following the Union of Cabin Crew’s announcement yesterday that it will be restricting inflight services onboard Air Malta flights as from Monday, Air Malta said the union’s action was a surprise since during a meeting yesterday afternoon it was agreed that negotiations would continue and a meeting was scheduled for June 2.
Air Malta described the directive as unreasonable and said that apart from causing inflight service disruptions to its passengers, it came at a sensitive time when tourism arrivals to Malta were being negatively affected due to the economic recession.
The airline said it was reserving all its rights to protect its interests, the interests of its employees and the interests of its customers.
It reassured clients that safety on board would not be affected and that it was doing its utmost to minimise the inconvenience.
