A suspected drug deal was foiled by the police after a tip-off led them to a man allegedly in possession of a kilo of cannabis and a another carrying 150 grammes of the same drug.

Drug Squad officers monitored 30-year-old Mark Pisani for a number of days before managing to catch him in Swieqi with four blocks of cannabis resin underneath his car seat on Tuesday, the police said.

Marco Farrugia, 39, was allegedly caught in possession of 150 grammes of cannabis resin and an amount of cash shortly afterwards.

Mr Pisani yesterday pleaded not guilty to conspiring to import and trafficking in the drug. Mr Farrugia denied, possessing the cannabis in circumstances denoting it was not for his exclusive use.

Both men were granted bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €4,000.

Police Inspector Norbert Ciappara prosecuted.

Lawyer Edward Gatt appeared for Mr Farrugia and lawyer Joseph Giglio appeared for Mr Pisani.
