A man from Panama was arrested at Malta International Airport on Tuesday evening after Customs officers allegedly discovered two kilos of cocaine hidden in his suitcase.

Customs said the discovery was made when the 30-year-old arrived here on a flight from Brussels carrying two suitcases.

It said the officers X-rayed the suitcases and noticed that one of them had a false bottom. Underneath, they found a package wrapped in silver and a plastic bag containing white powder.

The man said he knew nothing about the drug.

No other drugs were found in the other suitcase and neither on him.

Customs said the passenger was handed over to the police Drug Squad for further investigation.
