GWU calls for government statement on health service charges

The GWU has called on the government to issue a clear statement that public health services would remain free of charge.

It said it was concerned about reports that the government had commissioned and discussed a report which recommended payment for public health services.

While recognising that health services imposed a burden on state finances, the GWU said it firmly stood by its belief that essential social services, including health services, should remain free of charge for all, and the governemnt, therefore, should not abdicate its responsibilities.
