German firm recruits redundant workers

Maltese industry was not dead but it had to adapt to the market's changing needs, Social Policy Minister John Dalli said yesterday.

Infratec, a German company based in Malta, was a clear example of how the industry could synchronise with the market's new requirements, he said during an onsite visit.

The company produces electronic devices and offers consultancy, development, prototyping, series production, packaging, logistics and after sales service.

Company CEO Karlheinz Knappe explained they started two years ago with 17 employees in Corradino but moved to the new site in Ħal Far three months ago with 80 employees. Infratec took up a scheme offered by the Employment and Training Corporation and employed 18 former FAL workers who had been made redundant.

The company's target was to further expand the development for the market's needs in energy saving and security products, he said.
