A passenger from Panama was yesterday evening caught entering Malta with more than two kilogrammes of cocaine, the Customs Department said.

It said in a statement that the 30-year-old Panamanian arrived in Malta on a flight from Brussels carrying two suitcases, which were X-rayed.

Following an intensive search in one of them, a packet wrapped in silver and a plastic bag with white powder were found in a false bottom. The passenger said he did not know about the packet. Searches on the other suitcase and on his person proved negative.

The passenger was passed on to the police.
