Do you remember how in 1998, the PN government had promised to build a modern power station and to close the detrimental one in Marsa? In 2000, the Marsa chimneys continued emitting toxic gases. So then the goverment promised that it will be closed in 2004. Time passed, Marsa is still engulfed in fumes, and the now the government tells us that the power station will be closed in 2015.

All bark and no bite. The situation today is that we have two power stations with no filters or scrubbers. And your children and nephews inhale soot in Fgura, Rudolph Street in Sliema, St Joseph High Street in Ħamrun, Triq Aldo Moro in Marsa. And one in three of your kids and your nephews uses an inhaler for asthma, suffers from respiratory problems, and other related allergies.

EU accession also meant a better air quality for all Maltese and Gozitans. However, it seems we are back to square one. And meanwhile, our children get sick, the healthcare bill increases, and Malta's CO2 levels continue rising. The consequences are a higher tax bill to finance an unsustainable energy generation system to pay eventual fines for not complying with EU standards on CO2 emission reduction.

Alternattiva Demokratika has been consistent on this subject for 20 years. We do not speak out of convenience in order to grab your vote and then forget all about you. We will deliver on all we promise. You may not agree on everything we say and believe in, but you surely know that we keep our promises.

Contrary to the votes by EPP and PES MEPs that favour industry and big business, and forget the citizen, we will be working towards pushing for ambitious long-term targets for car CO2 emissions, improving the way we use energy and stopping energy wastage, and a greater drive towards reducing emissions.

A vote for AD is a vote for credibility and consistency on European matters.
