Thank you, Harry Fenech (May 23) for the clear information about the electoral register in the UK. You restored my faith in the British electoral system.

Mr Fenech is correct. I was not aware of the information he gave. I fully agree with it. In my letter I was reacting to a letter written by a UK citizen residing in Malta, making similar claims to those Fr Raymond Camilleri made in his comments.

The point I put across was that if one leaves a country permanently, one should not be allowed to return at the time of an election and vote. The UK, presumably as in most other countries, makes sure that citizens are still present, alive and eligible to vote by keeping an up-to-date register.
