I refer to the letter Mellieħa Road (May 12).

The repair work mentioned has indeed been carried out, albeit late by weeks if not months! However, no safety design improvements have been incorporated in the repair work.

As was pointed out in the original letter on the subject (May 8), some months prior to the most recent damage occurring, the railing had sustained a similar accidental impact, which resulted in the dislodgment of masonry of the retaining wall adjacent to and behind the railing. Every time this happens there is a danger that parts of the wall would collapse onto the uphill roadway. This curve has a history of this sort of damage occurring every time the railing is hit. Such a hazard should be eliminated.

Reinforced railings on the downhill side, and a solid protective barrier between the railing and the wall in question, would go a long way towards ensuring the safety of those who travel along that particular roadway.
