City deal: Manchester City have confirmed a three-year, multi-million pound shirt sponsorship deal with Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airlines. The deal ends a long association with Thomas Cook.
Cisse: France striker Djibril Cisse will not be joining Sunderland on a permanent basis, the club confirmedz. Cisse, 27, spent the season on loan at the Stadium of Light from Marseille and scored 11 goals in 38 appearances.
Ibisevic: Injured striker Vedad Ibisevic has extended his contract with Hoffenheim until 2013. The 24-year-old Bosnian, who scored 18 goals in 17 matches before the winter break to help his team top the standings, ruptured cruciate ligaments in January and has not played since.
Ketsbaia: Greek champions Olympiakos Piraeus have appointed Temuri Ketsbaia as their new coach in place of Ernesto Valverde. The 41-year-old Cypriot-Georgian became the first coach to lead a Cypriot club into the Champions League group stages at Anorthosis Famagusta this season after they eliminated Olympiakos in the qualifying rounds. He quit his post at Anorthosis in April.
Giro d'Italia: Carlos Sastre staged a stunning late charge to win the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia yesterday, while Denis Menchov finished second to stay top overall. Sastre, the 2008 Tour de France winner, reeled in Yaroslav Popovych on the final climb to finish the 237-km slog in the Marche region in 7:11.54. Popovych looked to be on his way to victory when he zipped away from fellow escapees Damiano Cunego and Gabriele Bosisio on the final descent. But he faded in the closing stages and Sastre took advantage to claim a superb win.
Doping: Austria's Bernhard Kohl, who was caught using drugs in last year's Tour de France, announced his retirement from professional cycling. Kohl, who was handed a two-year ban by the Austrian national Anti-Doping Agency last year, was the best-placed climber in 2008's Tour de France and finished the race third overall.
Golf: South Africa's Rory Sabbatini withstood a late charge from Briton Brian Davis to clinch a two-stroke victory at the $6.5 million Byron Nelson Championship in Texas on Sunday. Joint leader overnight, Sabbatini carded a six-under 64 at the Four Seasons TPC to finish with a tournament record 19-under-par 261 and $1,152,000 in prize money for his fifth PGA Tour victory.
Basket, NBA: Orlando Magic beat Cleveland Cavaliers 99-89 in a spiteful clash on Sunday to take a 2-1 lead in their Eastern Conference finals series. Orlando's Dwight Howard had 24 points and nine rebounds but played less than 28 minutes because of foul trouble, but five team-mates chipped in with double digit scores as the Magic held the Cavs to just 37 per cent shooting.
