Akram Ali Larbi Salem Ossta, a Libyan national, was today fined €3,000 and jailed for two years after he was convicted of possession and trafficking of cannabis.

The court heard that the police had received information that the accused was to deliver drugs to a residence. The accused was in fact arrested outside the house after drugs were found inside. He was found to be in possession of €700 in cash which the residents said was what they had paid for the drugs.

The accused told the court that the cash was payment for plastering he had carried out in the house in the previous week.

The residents denied that any such works were carried out.

The court said it was convinced this was the accused's first experiment in crime and he had been caught immediately.
