Bidnija, a hamlet which has been attached to St Paul’s Bay since the setting up of local councils in Malta, may be returning to Mosta, following consultations the Courts have ordered the Electoral Commission to embark upon.

The local Mosta authorities had made several submissions with the Electoral Commission requesting such consultations to start but to no avail. So a court case was initiated in 2001.

The mayor and the secretary had argued that it did not make sense and it was not logical to divide the hamlet both for the sake of tradition and also history.

Since the commission can only change borders in exceptional cases, following consultations with the minister, the councils concerned and, if possible, residents, the Court ordered the Electoral Commission to embark on these consultations.
