An Egyptian man accused of stealing a pouch containing €2,640 was granted bail after both the police inspector and the defence lawyer agreed that he was not the type of person to breach the conditions imposed by the court.

Magistrate Anthony Vella heard 33-year-old Gakob Nori plead not guilty to taking the pouch from a house in Mosta last Friday between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Defence lawyer Raphael Fenech Adami asked the court to take into consideration the fact that his client has been living in Malta for a number of years and that he had a family here, adding that there was no fear that he might breach the bail conditions.

Police Inspector Paul Bond agreed, suggesting that the court might also consider imposing a heavy personal guarantee on the accused.

Magistrate Vella decided to grant him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.
