2008 vintage yielded 2200 tons of Maltese grapes

The 2008 vintage yielded an estimated 2200 tons of Maltese grapes for D.O.K. and I.G.T. wines of which Marsovin harvested approximately 50%, the winery said.

In 2008 Marsovin released 17 D.O.K and I.G.T. wines. This year it increased its production by contracting more farmers who were previously contracted to other local producers.

By the end of 2009 Marsovin said it will have 44 D.O.K and I.G.T. wines produced from quality Maltese grapes. These range from Premium reserve D.O.K. wines to entry level I.G.T. wines, produced from international hand picked noble varieties as well as traditional local indigenous grape varieties.

Marsovin Director, Jeremy Cassar said “Even though we are still not 100% self sufficient, we have come a long way in a very short period of time. We have invested heavily in the production of Maltese grapes to be able to offer to the consumer a vast selection of wines produced entirely from Maltese grapes. These statistics are a clear sign of the dedication we have made as a winery towards the quality we aim to offer to our consumers.”

The production of these wines takes a lot of time, effort and expertise. Marsovin deals with 372 to produce these I.G.T. and D.O.K. wines. Each farmer is given expert advice and guidelines from Marsovin’s experts to ensure that the grapes are produced up to the standard which Marsovin expects.
