Significance of women in family and society needs to be acknowledged by everyone - Casa
"There is a need for a change in mentality so that everyone acknowledges the contribution and the significance of women in our society. In today's world, women should be appreciated more as they form part of an essential role in today's family," David Casa said during a workshop he organised for women.
The workshop was entitled ‘The significance of women in our family and society'. Dr Gianella Caruana Curran, Dr Paula Mifsud Bonnici, radio presenter Marbeck Spiteri and former Net Television journalist Amanada Ciappara, together with Mr Casa, formed the panel for this discussion which was led by Gozitian student, Mariella Rapa.
Mr Casa remarked that five years on since Malta joined the European Union, being one of our representatives in the European Parliament helped him to be more aware that Malta, and the rest of Europe, are facing two major challenges which need to be addressed instantly: ‘how are we going to remain competitive as well as economical and how are we going to generate more jobs to reinforce our economy.'
The Maltese MEP had words of praise for the abilities shown by women choosing to work, mainly those that are achieving success in the employment scene. He also praised the Government's initiatives to help women to return to work after giving birth and the openings of new child care centres.

He hasn't noticed the challenges that gay people face every day of their lives, not a little of it brought on by the inequality that exists on this Island.

I would ask you to try to involve yourself to settle the divorce issue here in Malta as with that one would have a clearer view on Maltese Women and how they would stand after that.
.
But Mr.Casa you should know well that Maltese women are not born to be baby making factories but to be respected by giving them equality on all society's different stages.
The maternity leave is not in tandem with today's needs as it would still relegate the woman to the position of a part time mother and that does not help the young offspring formation.
The divorce problem is the real and most important position that really concern the Maltese. women.
The rest is just secondary!!!

Mr. Bugeja, you have every right to comment, agree or disagree, as a neutral person I can't understant your fuss about this. David Casa had a very good idea to organise a conference to discuss women's participation in work, so what if other women candidates wer not invited? lets talk about better things. We all want the best for our country......

Ah ok then candidates of the same party are competitors and not part of a team. Very well. I can see that David Casa's canvasers represent the Party team spirit to the maximum.
I am not asking for a lot since Simon Busuttil invited all candidates to his conference on 5 years of membership. I cannot understand why David Casa did not invite the two women candidates of PN. Simon offerred a good example and not David Casa who completely ignored the other women candidates.
PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!!! and I will repeat this as much as you want.

Congratulations on this initiative David! People like you are the kind of people Malta needs for representation at the EP. I wish you all the best for the forthcoming elections!

@Toni Bugeja
What are you on about? I think every candidate is expected to carry out his own workshops, and the reason why these are held are also very obvious. So do you expect that ANY CANDIDATE invites a "competitor" so to say to his activities?? Come on...be realistic! One would find people like you there to criticise all the time; when time comes to offer concrete suggestions, people like you vanish in thin air!

It is very interesting to note that Mr. Casa apparently did not have the decency to invite the two women candidates from the Nationalist Party to the workshop on women in society. Well done Mr. Casa. It looks like you really believe in what you preach!!

I am glad that someone is talking women's employment and work opportunities seriously. Unfortunatley the percentage of Maltese women opting to work is less then the EU average and we need to improve on this. Well done David!
