Motorcyclist dies in Pietà traffic accident

A 29-year-old motorcyclist died on Saturday night in an accident at Pietà seafront and the police are still trying to find out exactly what happened because no one witnessed the crash.

The police said they were informed at about 12.30 a.m. that there was a man lying on the ground in Pietà close to a motorcycle that was also on the ground. Officers arrived on scene soon after and found the man, Karl Vella, unconscious on the street, a short distance away from his extensively-damaged Piaggio motorcycle.

Mr Vella died in hospital later on.

The police said no one witnessed the incident. They are still trying to establish what happened and whether another vehicle was involved in the accident.

Magistrate Silvio Meli launched an inquiry.
