Malta – robbed of its identity

When I take a look around me, the first question that springs to mind is: what is it that makes us Maltese?

If we take a step back in time, not too far back, we would see values that are not around today, and that demonstrate who we really are. The traits that I refer to are the purity found on this island: this tiny gem in the middle of the Mediterranean, so small in size but so grand in its intrinsic purity.

Time is a concept of change. However the passage of time does not necessarily mean that one changes to the extent of losing self-identity.

Our people, however, are demonstrating a social irresponsibility that is slowing eroding the very fabric of our society and of our heritage that our forefathers fought hard to achieve.

Regrettably, many do not really appreciate the gravity of the problem of illegal immigration. The Maltese seem to be blissfully unaware that the continuous influx of foreign immigrants to Malta will eventually change the face of our entire way of life - in every sense of the word.

Our cultural heritage is being eroded, immigrant by immigrant. Each immigrant who arrives here brings with him different ways of life, different experiences, different beliefs and traditions.

Furthermore, whereas most Maltese families work and have very few children, the immigrants seem intent on producing at least five offspring each. The demographics of Malta - and of Europe - are changing at a faster rate than anyone could have ever predicted.

To add insult to injury, those few who voice concerns such as this are vilified and some were even taken to court on grounds of inciting racial hatred. The insult is obvious; the injury is more severe for it demeans the Constitution of the Republic - a constitution which grants to every person the right to freedom of thought and of expression.

Nowadays I have come to despise the word "Democracy" precisely because it has lost every sense of democracy! It is now time to start thinking in a logical and rational way. If we don't change our attitude, not only will we lose our identity, but also all of our invaluable treasures.

I feel that if we don't stand up for our rights, we would, by our inertia, be handing over on a silver platter all that which makes us Maltese.

Standing up for what is yours is not a crime. Sitting back and watching your island being lost is - it is a crime against nature. The collective inertia of the Maltese people is not only destroying our heritage but also our social and moral fabric, the fabric of our society, of the Maltese of today and of our children and grandchildren.

The sacred Idea of Imperium Europa is not merely a political idea but also a Spiritual one where the final aim is to elevate Malta to a whole new Spiritual level - a pyramidical peak for other Europeans to aspire to.

Let us then make a careful choice, a choice based on rational thinking, for the salvation of Malta.
