International Hotel Investments this evening inaugurated the €100 million total refurbishment and extension of the Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel in St Petersburg.

The 400-room, five-star property was officially reopened by the governor of St Petersburg Valentina Matvienko, President Emeritus Guido de Marco, and Corinthia Group chairman Alfred Pisani. Ms Matvienko is a former Russian ambassador to Malta.

With a ballroom for 600 guests, and conference facilities for 1,200 people, the hotel, at 57, Nevskij Prospect, St Petersburg’s main boulevard, now boasts the most extensive facilities within any luxury property in the city. In its fresh guise, it has a larger foyer, a new restaurant and new bars.

The newly unveiled executive wing housed in the adjoining building incorporates 107 luxury suites and bedrooms, a 250-square metre Presidential Suite, and an executive lounge.

The Nevskij Palace Hotel was acquired as an operating hotel in 2002 by International Hotel Investments plc, Corinthia group’s development arm. At the time, IHI also bought the adjacent, endangered buildings to be developed into Nevskij Plaza, offering commercial and retail space. Structural work on both buildings was completed a few weeks ago.
