The Gżira health centre will close at 5 p.m. as from today under the new agreement reached between the government and the Medical Association of Malta.

The Paola, Floriana and Mosta health centres will be open around the clock, providing just emergency services between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays and after 1 p.m. on weekends and public holidays, the Health Division said yesterday.

The MAM had threatened strike action last week over a shortage of doctors and their redeployment but this was averted following a 90-minute meeting on Saturday.

The two parties also decided to go back to the negotiating table to discuss an agreement reached last week.
