Hibs clinch the premiership crown
The Hibs championship winning team celebrates at Ta'Qali. Picture: Darrin Zammit Lupi.
Hibernians took the championship crown from Valletta this afternoon after holding the citizens to a goalless draw in the last match of the premier league.
The match, played before the biggest crowd at Ta' Qali stadium for many years, lacked spectacle in the first half but picked up tempo in the second, particularly as Valletta needed a victory to leapfrog Hibs in the standings and retain the title they won last year.
Both teams were finely balanced and very cautious of each other in the first half.
In the second half Steve Bezzina came close with a long distance shot for the citizens as did Priso later, but it was Terence Scerri, returning from injury for Hibs, who came closest when his lob mid-way through the second half hit the horizontal.

Well done Hibs and special thanks to our President Mr. Tony Bezzina and his committee. Last Sunday Hibs gave a good lesson to all football supporters. It is not all ways the money that counts but the planning and organization. Through these last thirty years Hibs build up a good infrastructure with lots of facilities. Further more the nurseries are extremely good and this year they won the major categories. This is a guarantee we have a very bright future in front of us.
Not the same can be said to the MFA. On Sunday the organization was shameful for whom was involved in it. I expected more organization especially with the experience the MFA have lead by a President who is the vice-president of UEFA. I bought the ticket from the curve and paid €8 because was informed from the man in the boot that we can pass to the enclosure. When we went there we found the doors closed and lots of men were angry trying to explain the police that they paid €8. The police did a good job and calmed the situation. MFA must do refund.

I was utterly disgusted at the level of incompetence demonstrated by the MFA at organizing such an event. I was at the stadium around 2.45 pm (more than 2 hours before kick off), bought an enclosure ticket for 8 euros and made my way to the HIBS enclosure only to find the gate already closed. A policeman and an inspector were in front of the gate, in the midst of an angry mob of around 60 rightly angered people, risking personal injury. In fact I felt sorry for these policemen set there without any protection. The people had every right to be angry and protest - they were ROBBED by the MFA (tickets for the enclosure were sold 8 euros and the people were not given access to the enclosure or any refund).
I finally made my way to the millenium stand where tickets should have cost 5 euro (I paid 8 euro). To add insult to injury, any form of beverage finished by half-time. Thus after paying 8 euro and watching entire game in the sun on the Millenium Stand I could not even quench my thirst.
Will anyone be refunded the 3 euros???
An utter disgrace.

@J.Scerri - I am a VFC Supporter. You are right about saying what we really think about our club. Only thing is, THIS will never change. We are really proud and I don't see any problem with that. Following your line of thought why not just scrap all the other sports as well, as it will be pretty difficult for us to place in the Olympic Games etc... since we are too small to compete with large countries.
I congratulate Hibernians for winning the league.

Altyhough i hate maltese football i still follow the weekly results but that is the extent of my relationship with local football, turningto the MFA there is no need for anybody to tell us about the disorganised organisation we know it.Hopefully when the next round of the mfa elections come let's hope for a change of president.all he did was build the millenium stand and oh my god there is nothing to shield you from rain sun, maybe that is why i have not been to the football grounds for the past 18 years,i m sure i have saved a lot of money by not going there to give my money to the people who's only interest is to make money from other people, and not running the association properly.anyway yesterday i wished both my father and brothers and sister that Hibs would win the league.as i said i don't follow maltese football but i wished for the sake of my family some good luck and it came true. ihope that they enjoyed celebrating the championship victory.WELL DONE HIBERNIANS

I think the reason why nearly everybody who don't support valletta is against them (not like other teams) is because of their attitude with the other teams' supporters. First of all I don't follow that much the local football so I'm not writing this because I support another team. But this thing that when they write about their team, you'll feel they are writing about Barcelona, Manchester Utd. or Inter is a LITTLE bit out of proportion. They can be happy with their team when they win & in these last years they ruled but keep in mind that you're still doing this ONLY in Malta !!! Let me remind you just one thing, ALL the maltese football teams will be already kicked out in Mid-July after their 1st preliminary round when they play against a Moldovian or a Lituanian team ...

As a Hibs Supporter I would like to congratulate HIBERNIANS for the success and for bringing the Championship back to us! You were consistent throughout the whole season and it was a merited title win. However not the same can be said for the organisation from the Police and MFA side. We approached T aQali from Attard side at around 3pm and as soon as we approached the entrance to Ta Qali from the main road, we were told by the police that as HIBS supporters we were to enter Ta Qali through the entrance on the Mtarfa roundabout. Doing so we ended up in the middle of Valletta supporters and apart from being intimidated I also ended up with damage to my car's side door when Valletta supporters tried to tear apart a flag we had attached !! well done to the police. The experience going into the stadium was much the same as mentioned in many of the posted comments. It's a shame that we had to pay Eur8 when they knew we will not be given access to the Main Stand and this was only around 3:20pm !! MFA you got this one TOTALLY WRONG

Congratulations to Hibs!!
Shame to the MFA how things were organised outside the ground . To have a ticket you must be a wrestler , no organistion at all from 5 ticket boots on the millenium side just two were open.It tok me 30 minutes to buy a ticket and lucky not to suffer any injury.Shame on the MFA how to handle these matters.

As a Hibs supporter, I say well done to both Hibernians and Valletta.
The same could not be said of the MFA with their neolithic way of organising such a crowd-gathering event. Daniel Farrugia and P.Muscat have already described the mediocre organisation accurately. I will only add that my brother was nearly refused entry to the Millenium stand (Hibs side) just because he was wearing a Hibs t-shirt! (the excuse was that it was a "neutral" section). He had to turn his t-shirt inside out to enter...only to find that not only were there people in both Valletta and Hibs t-shirts at the Millenium stand (both sides), but there was even people with huge flags. So no thanks to the bully police officer who seems to get a kick out of showing his power because of his uniform.
MFA committee: Resign.

a big rip off from MFA. the enclosure area access from the north stand was closed at least 1hr before the match started, allegedly because it was full up - i could still see clearly lots of empty spaces there. but we still had to pay 8€ entrance from the north side. of course, we were offered to go to the millenium side but then we paid 8€ and not 5€ which should have been.
MFA you are a disgrace, were it not for HIBS I would never come to watch matches there.!!! it is a shame and a rip off!!!!

First of all I would like to congratulate HIBERNIANS for their success and for bringing the Championship home to us! A big thanks also to the organised colourful support by Paola Boys Hibs Ultras who have supported the team through thick and thin. Well done to all! We deserved it!
But unfortunately I cannot say the same for the organisation at Ta Qali football ground yesterday! It was unbelievable... apart for having to wait in long queues to buy the tickets despite being there at least 1 and a half hours before we were charged 8 euros when the gates to the enclosure had been already closed for more than half an hour! A shame!
One other thing...after 25 minutes from the start of the match...the bars (wara l-lasti) ran out of water. Another flop! But the worse was yet to come. I went to the exit to leave the ground and buy something from a kiosk outside but I was told by a PC that he couldn't guarantee that I would be let in again. And surely enough the gates were being locked.
SHAME ON YOU MFA! Others who have witnessed this please speak up!!!!

@P Muscat > I'm in total agreement with you and i was thinking to write the same complaints on the paper as well but after all... do we really think the MFA will be reading the comments on the Times and taking action??? I think not.
Even a simple PR and information idea such as a facebook group wasn't in the minds of the MFA PR office and http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=621415176&ref=profile#/event.php?eid=82522754431&ref=nf had to be created by myself or any other supporter!
I think the MFA was really out of touch with today's event. Not really understanding it's proportions and attraction. A true shame!
In the meantime a big well done to all Hibernians clan. Hope you'll enjoy the celebrations and make the most of them!
Yesterday's loss is no dent to Valletta F.C. marvellous history (old and recent) - gladly our team is VERY OFTEN competing for the best local titles and that is a big plus. Us supporters should now gear up for the next challenges! Come on city! Come on city!

prosit hibs from a valletta supporter!!
@ p muscat
thats not all i paid the 8e ticket to enter the enclosure area and after having queued from 1.30 to 2.30 finally the doors open @ the north end and i can assure you that the road was full with people one can imagine the disorganization ! i entered the ground at about 3.30-4 and guess what when i entered they closed the enclosure area for no reason since it wasn't fully full! and obviously people were angry about this and that's why some trouble arose. i watched the game at the millenium stand with my friends who paid just 5e to enter.
another question . how can water bottles finish at the bar about 25min before ht!!! in that sun and with children and elderly at the stadium!!! a big disgrace and than mfa wants people to attend the matches , i think no one would handle such a hassle every week!!

In Malta we are really unprepared for such great events in football and when taking into account that the stadium is at Ta Qali, that is still an undeveloped area, I think that the road management can be much better organized. Last but not least is the health and safety within a stadium, having an entrance as if you are entering a battle ground more that something that gives you pleasure to go to.

True well done to Hibs. They deserved it because of their consistency throughout the season.
However it was a lousy organisation by the MFA and the Police Force.
- Traffic unplanned
- Long queue to buy the ticket. Not all the stalls were open at Millenium Entrance C
- Long queue to enter the ground
- Long queue to buy drinks
Thats not all. Exit was again subject to a longer queue as Millenium C and North Side had to exit from two single revolving doors exits. Traffic home was again disorganised.
Any explanation or accountability for this mess??
And what about health and safety of the spectators?? if any accident had to happen
