Hibernians took the championship crown from Valletta this afternoon after holding the citizens to a goalless draw in the last match of the premier league.

The match, played before the biggest crowd at Ta' Qali stadium for many years, lacked spectacle in the first half but picked up tempo in the second, particularly as Valletta needed a victory to leapfrog Hibs in the standings and retain the title they won last year.

Both teams were finely balanced and very cautious of each other in the first half.

In the second half Steve Bezzina came close with a long distance shot for the citizens as did Priso later, but it was Terence Scerri, returning from injury for Hibs, who came closest when his lob mid-way through the second half hit the horizontal.
