The Alfa Mito, an incarnation of the mythical Alfa 8C Competizione limited series super car, has been launched on the local market to entice a new generation of Alfisti.

The Mito is innovative but with strong inferences from its past. It has been named after Milan, the city of design where the style of the car was born, and Turin, which will be the location of production.

Newly launched on the European market, the Mito already won a number of accolades, including 'Novelty of 2009' and 'The Cars I prefer 2009', with a total of 157,000 votes by readers of Quattro Ruote magazine.

The Mito's engine range includes a 1.4MPI petrol engine developing 95bhp and two 1.4TB Turbo charged petrol engines with 120bhp and 155bhp, the latter giving the car an acceleration to 100km in eight seconds and a top speed of 215Km/h.

Diesel versions include a 1.3JTDm Turbo Diesel with 90bhp and a 1.6JTDm with 120bhp. The trim levels are the 'Progression' or the high-specification 'Distinctive'. Most engines also include the innovative DNA system by means of which the driver can alter the setup characteristics of the Mito (D-ynamic / N-ormal / A-ll Weather) to suit driving circumstances or mood preferences. Emissions across the engines range from 114g/km to 153g/km.

The 120 bhp 1.6 JTDM is the best engine in its category in terms of specific power (it can achieve a torque of 320 Nm at 1,750 rpm), while also boasting 80 per cent lower particulate emissions and 20 per cent lower CO2 emissions than previous generation power units.

The top of the range car - the 155 bhp 1.4 Turbobenzina - reaches a top speed of 215 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in eight seconds) with a 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to cars of the previous generation. CO2 emissions range from 114g/km to 153g/km on the most powerful engine.

Another innovative product introduced on the Mito is the Q2 electronic system that acts only on the brakes to guarantee the effect of a self-locking differential. Thanks to the system, the traction control device applies brakes on the inner wheel and redistributes the torque, applying it to the outer wheel with the greatest grip. This maintains the desired trajectory with optimum traction.

The Alfa Mito adopts another state-of-the-art electronic device for maximum handling: the dynamic steering torque system that complements the electronic power steering as part of the vehicle dynamic control system. In detail, the DST makes it possible to apply a slight torque to the steering to suggest the correct manoeuvre to the driver. This takes place in very specific circumstances.

Passive safety features include seven airbags as standard (two multistage), three-point seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limit limiters, a self-aligning head restraint) system, and an anti-whiplash device built into the backrest on the front seats.

Prices start from €20,500. For more information visit the UCIM showroom in Valley Road, Birkirkara or call 2382 3200.
