Pullicino Orlando to hold Mistra party
Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando is to hold a pre-election party at his controversial Mistra property today-week, and the Prime Minister has been invited.
He does not yet have a permit for the party but he insisted that he will be doing everything "as it should be".
On Thursday, the two fields belonging to Dr Pullicino Orlando were flattened by a steamroller in preparation for the big event.
On the internet social networking site Facebook, the party is being advertised as an 1980s and 1990s night. Entrance is free.

Paul zammit, what is more annoying to people who have the environment or indeed political decency at heart - Labourites chanting or being fooled by Gonzi and JPO for the umpteen time?

This is the truth what Alfred sant said befor the general electiones: that jpo had intentions to turn the site in a club if i remember well it had to be called "Spin valley "
Ok so till the general elections JPO declared that he had nothing to do with all this, and he fully understands that this is an ecological site and that its under the Mepa Natura2000 .
lets belive it !
But what happend now ?!? the site isn't listed in Natura 2000 anymore ? what more its no more an ecological site ??
Theres nothing wrong to make a party in a field you personaly own
but Its Totaly WRONG to hold a party even once! in Mistra
If he wanted to make partys In fields is sur Jpo the green of the year 07/08!!! missu ra fejn ha jixtri .much more and more when he was runing for elections last year and probably he would have been the minister of agriculture ...
Come on GONZ mela hsibtna Boloh !!!!!

Am I the only one who thinks that this is rather insensitive of JPO?? The timing is not exactly opportune, but then of course, we do not have to attend!! Thanks but no thanks Jeff!!

Between Rabat and Zebbug there is also a particular nightclub that operates and is surrounded by fields. So much for double standards!!!

@'TVella' so it's ok that, every year, parties are held, legally, on public property including beaches but jeffrey cannot hold a party on his ploughed fields (not especially ecologically sensitive, unlike a beach!!!) . lighten up!!!
btw- JOE SALIBA HIMSELF STATED THAT JEFFREY WON US THE ELECTIONS ! get your facts right.
i cannot understand why a person would call another person obnoxious simply because he's organising a party on his land. I feel it is OBNOXIOUS to do so! grow up. get a life. find a hobby,

Party name should be
Its my party and I cry if I want to!!!!!! :) :)
Let JPO be... if he wants to organise a party in his own fields why not as long as within the parameters of the law...
and to all prude and environmentalists about killing stuff in the soil because of the steamrolling get a life please... I think we are taking this a bit too far... noise pollution... pah the animal life will get a bit of a sleepless night or else have a short night...
environmentalists did not comment in the negative about earth garden... which though a great show did exactly the same thing.... two days of noise, lots of people, disturbance of animal life in the ta qali area... but it was an environmental show so that can be done...
i think that people should grow up and stop picking on every single thing....
I rest my case... and I might actually attend the party myself... thanks JPO

Also, If JPO wants to hold a party on personal property, why doesn't he hold it at his residence? If he is expecting a lot of people, then in a football ground. The party does not have to be in the middle of fields. I suggest he puts the fields to better use by planting qargha baghli.
By holding a party at Mistra he is reminding everyone of his impish behaviour before the election - we nearly lost it because of him.

Holding a party in your own premises is not the point ....... the point is that JPO had spoken in defence of environmental issues. I honestly thought he cared about the environment, about losing land in its natural state to buildings These fields in Mistra have lost their flora and fauna because of the steamrollers, more damage will occur by the trampling of party-goers, not to mention noise pollution and after-party rubbish , but what would he care? I cannot vote PN again because of him. To me, JPO is Just Politcally Obnoxious.

I just received the advertising brochure today in my letterbox.
It stated (not exact quote):
* Party hosted by Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando -- at Mistra -- introducing your MEP candidate Alex Perici Calascione *
Considering both persons and locality chosen had been quite controversial... sure the brochure made me smile....

I cannot understand some of the comments written by some people on this article. Since when is it illegal to hold a prty on your own premises? What we should be looking at is that no laws and regulations are broken. If they stick to these, then we have no right to stop anyone from enjoying himself on his own property, otherwise, where will it lead to? Will we have to have our children's birthday parties in rented premises? Having it in your private garden would be the same no??

Let us all leave the EP candidates celebrate as much as they want at the Mistra party. May also there be other parties organized by other people on the same date and at the same time. Everybody has the right to party and not just the privileged few. However, I am sure that common citizens' greatest party is going to be on the 6th June 2009 for they will rest at home and refrain from voting.
Furthermore, is the EP campaing a Beauty contest flavoured with artificial smiles whilst concealing their antogonism between candidates within the same parties? Money is the play of the game no matter what benefits they are talking about as part of their long-term advertising campaign.
Long live the CNI for they are exposing the whole truth and nothing else but the truth.

What's wrong is holding a party in a field?
If it's wrong then I should ask many Maltese people who have fields but don't care to grow crops in them that during the summer they can't carry out any more BBQs there.

So Jeffrey decides to hold a party in his PERSONAL and barren field, and the Times raises a spectacular scenario in which heavy machinery is brought in to flatten the field,,,,,with the obvious intent of giving a wrong impression of what is to happen.
The day after the party is held in Mistra, a party is being held at Paradise bay, on PUBLIC LAND. That means that no one not in possession of a ticket will be allowed on the Public beach. Having thousands of people on the beach will certainly damage the beach.........but for the Times only Mistra seems to be the problem.
Sop making mountains out of mole hills and start reporting matters without fabricating sensational stories,,,,,,as The Times used to do in the past.

So Jeffrey is organising a party on his own land........Big Deal. Doesn't he have the right to do so? If i own a field, am i not allowed to hold a party/bbq? All permits are being requested and if granted everything will be above board.
The sensationalism of the article certainly makes one wonder what the real scope of the article is. Comments like ''On Thursday, the two fields belonging to Dr Pullicino Orlando were flattened by a steamroller' ' only imply that illegal works were carried out, but the photo of the fields show that the fields are kept in pristine condition. Maybe the journalist does not know in what state fields in malta are at this time of year. Also does the same journalist intend to go round all the fields and land held by memebers of parliament to check whether they are being maintained or not? or is Jeffrey the only victim?
Come on Times of Malta, tell us what the real scope of the article is........whose interests are you covering? You didn't manage to break Jeffrey down last year, and now intend to keep on throwing mud and insinuations with alleged sensational stories?

I think he is being a bit silly lately, a bit of a show off too, has he not got over this issue yet? Why is he still playing the sore loser? All this sticking the knife further in, is it supposed to be any wise? Don't they know well enough that he was one of the main reasons the P.N won by just a tiny percentage in the last election, and that it was on an issue to do with this particular location? Ok, thank you for reminding me about all that, I had forgotten how angry I was at the P.N, thank you for reminding me of one very good reason not to vote P.N. They have the cheek.

Would it not be better if all those who like the countryside and the evening breeze accept Dr. Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando’s invitation and enjoy the party, if and when the necessary permits are issued?
Is there anything better than an open air party in pleasant surroundings? I guess that since JPO does not own a part of the beach, where the party might have been even better, he has no option but to promote this free event on his own land. Why cannot some people be merry? May I suggest that Dr. Pullicino Orlando invites Dr. Alfred Sant as well and have a drink together? Why should politics spoil personal relationships?
Vincent Buttigieg
May 23rd 2009, 19:01
So in the case of Pullicino Orlando (just because he belongs to one side of political spectrum) we have half of Malta protesting and the other half approving! Only this week another developer was applying to build a highrise monstrosity in the same area which, if you please is double the size allowed by regulations.
Can somebody please illuminate me as to whether MIstra is a sensitive area or not? If steamrolling a piece of land to hold a 'party' is wrong then the application for the highrise building in thew same area is even worse! BOTH SHOULD BE PROHIBITED! And this is not a metter of politics! It is a matter of common sense!

I don't know but some people here just put their comments before even considering anything. Some just comment politically as they are politically blind. Others just comment as a result of their envy for other people.
Mind you I condemn all that JPO done last year and do not agree with his proposed disco at Mistra Bay. But I think everybody can throw a party in his own open-air property if a permit is given by the police. Have you ever been to a village feasts, there are parties, sometimes even discos in the streets, street bars, and all kind of entertainment.
On Sunday afternoons I also see whole families in a family field organising a picnic for all the family. What's wrong in that?. The important thing is that they do not make a permanent structure and this applies also to JPO's fields. Nothing should be built permanently there as the area is outside development zone.

Please remind me, wasn't this land declared a natura 2000 natural reserve last year, meaning that nobody, not even its owner could disturb its natural habitat.
If this means that JPO infringed the law, then I am seeking the Comminisioner of Police to initiate proceedings agains JPO, who flattened the land without any permits, apparently breaching all rules of law.
Malta Police force, action please, nobody is above the law. infringments remain infringments, irrespective who commit them.
Shame of GONZi or any PN activist who will attend this party, a real shame to Malta.

If he owns that land and did not harm the enviroment why so much noise...maybe to side with someone...just a question obviously. For sure he is not nothing wrong or the police or mepa would have stopped him...
maybe for PN a landslide is clear like crystal on the 6th of June but for sure this does not go for PL merits but because of the arrogance of some members of the goverment...PN will learn from all this and will take care truly of every one...this will end in another major win in the General Elections in 4 years time

How can you organise and advertise a party when the permits have not yet been issued then claim you are doing everything as it should be? Or is JPO so arrogant to assume that the permits will be issued automatically because its him?
It seems that this is a tester to see if anyone objects - then if it goes ahead I wil bet that the original nightclub suddenly appears on the scene.
Also entrance might be free but are the drinks? Does he have a license to sell alcohol on the land?
So many questions. HE will be laughing all the way to the bank. Makes a change from crocodile tears I suppose.
