In the past I had appealed to The Times to please remove the San Gwann cart ruts from the list of Places of Interest regularly advertised for tourists to visit. If only a photographer could come and take a couple of photos of the poor state of this pre-historical site, readers would agree with me. For whole months it has been left in complete shambles and utter neglect with weeds growing a man's height and dogs' poop all over the place. In the year 2000, the site was handed over to the San Gwann council for maintenance, rehabilitation and embellishment. Not much was done but it was never left in the state it is in now. The present council has left it in a very sorry state. How can we expect tourists, particularly German tourists who in the past were always awestruck by these mysterious remains, to come and visit such a dilapidated monument with no sight whatever of the famous ruts?
My appeal goes also to the San Gwann people to vote in the forthcoming council elections only for those candidates who show some kind of interest in our locality and who may have heritage at heart. Unfortunately, the present council has been very disappointing on this score, besides failing miserably in most aspects, particularly in cleanliness, street sweeping and weed cutting. It's no wonder that our precious heritage in this locality has been going to the dogs.
