Vella's side wins VLTC tournament

The 2009 San Michel team tournament at VLTC came to an end recently.

The competition attracted the participation of 66 male and 36 female players.

They were grouped in six teams and the captains were Joe Vella, Joe Aquilina, Carmen Difesa, Christine Scerri, Joe Callus and Doriana Portelli. The tournament was held over a period of 12 weeks with teams playing each other over two rounds and the top four advancing to the knockout stage.

In the semi-finals, Callus's team beat the side captained by Scerri while Vella's players had the better of Portelli's team.

The final, played on VLTC's San Michel court, saw Vella's team carry the honours with a 7-5 victory.
