Honouring liberators
When are we to have a day to honour all those who died to liberate Malta from the French rule, and all those who died with the French fleet at the Battle of the Nile?

Just remember that Napoleon considered Malta more important than Paris Montmartre.
Britain seems to have had the same thought.
Both were right.

Liberated from the French to be under the English! what liberation are you talking about? As for commemorations and celebrations we already have "Sette Giugno" the "Independence" and "Jum il-Helsien".

You stopped short of suggesting a 'Britain saved Malta day' but then you probably know we already have a Great Britain day..'the Seventh of June'.

Liberate Malta from French rule?..the best thing that happened to Malta up until that time was the coming of Napoleon to Malta .For the first time in our history, and in the short period the French were here we were on our way to being Citizens of our Country, until the Church edged on by the British put a stop to it.
Read your history Dan Healey.

The French period is one of the most dramatic in Maltese history. The numer of Maltese dying during this period surpasses any other during any period. Yet, none of of villiages acknowledges this sacrifice.
It was the first time the Maltese had their own elected representatives to organise there struggle and manage their affairs. Yet, seldom any reference is made to such an achievement as a statement of wish of self determination and political vision.
Whatever the intentions the French had, the fact that these were made at bayonet point honours the Maltese to have resisted them. Yet we choose to interpret this otherwise and despise or disrespect the choices made by our forefathers.
The achievement of self determination had to wait for another 200 years thruogh British rule, yet the first steps were made then, at the very high pricewhich, alas, we seem to ignore.
