Gżira United ended a memorable season with a deserved victory over Għargħur to clinch the Division Three title. The Maroons are the only team in local league competitions to remain unbeaten all season. Despite the upset, Għargħur will also be playing Division Two football in 2009/10.

Gżira shaded the opening stages and Għargħur goalkeeper Mark Aquilina could do nothing to stop the Maroons from opening the score on 27 minutes when Josef Felice beat him with a low shot.

Għargħur tried to hit back but Karl Vella Petroni and Ivan Ebejer failed to hit the target. On 35 minutes, Gżira doubled their lead with Nico Corito finishing off some good work by Felice.

At the change of ends, Għargħur lifted their game by a few notches and were denied by keeper Keith Camilleri off a point-blank Ebejer shot.

Marvic Grech blasted wide for Għargħur from a good position and four minutes from time Camilleri did well to stop a shot by substitute Nicolai Borg Sant.

Gżira sealed the result deep in stoppage time when Richard Attard placed the ball past Aquilina.

At the end of the match, Gżira captain Matthew Cocks was presented with the cup by MFA vice president Carmelo Bartolo.
