AD pushes Green New Deal

If an Alternattiva Demokratika candidate was elected to the European Parliament, the person would work for a Green New Deal, which would ensure cleaner air and high quality standards in this area.

Addressing a press conference as part of the EP elections campaign, AD chairman and MEP candidate Arnold Cassola said that rather than aiming for higher standards to protect people from cancer, respiratory problems and other illnesses, the country was opting for systems that used polluting fuels. The country was not only increasing pollution, it was also risking being fined millions of euros for not reaching its CO2 emissions reduction targets.

Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros, who will also be contesting the MEP elections, said AD supported directives that led to higher standards in transport, vehicles and power stations. An MEP representing AD would work for clean energy to be an EU priority and for investment in new technologies.

AD energy spokesman Ralph Cassar said that although air pollution was a major problem, other parties in the EP did not feel the need to improve the emission standards of trucks and cars. The Greens would continue working for such standards and for massive investment in public transport systems that used clean energy sources, he said.
