As many as 1.2 billion people might be watching this Saturday's Diet Coke Malta Fashion Awards on television thanks to an unprecedented broadcasting agreement with the World Fashion Channel.

The WFC is an international company based in Switzerland with representative branches in Milan, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London Istanbul, Moscow and Los Angeles.

This newly-formed collaboration between the organisers of the awards and the WFC came through a simple phone call, after the station called requesting footage of last year's edition.

Awards organiser Adrian Mizzi quickly seized the opportunity and suggested that rather than broadcasting "old news" the WTC should air this year's edition - the deal was quickly sealed.

WFC director and editor-in-chief Gerry Mandara said WTC sought to support fashion around the world, not just major events connected to fashion week.

Mr Mizzi said this was an excellent opportunity to expose the country's artistic talent, especially since this year's edition of the awards was "all made in Malta," meaning all footage would be filmed locally by TVM.

The show, taking place on Saturday at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta' Qali, will be presenting the latest collections of Maltese designers Charles and Ron, and Caroline Hili.

In addition, there will be hair shows, a male fashion show as well as swimwear and lingerie shows. All these will be complemented by local acts from bands and DJs.
