Cheap flights for voters
Travel arrangements are being made for eligible voters living abroad to be able to come to Malta to vote in the European Parliament elections on June 6.
Air Malta is offering return air tickets at €35, inclusive of taxes and other charges. These arrangements are open until June 14, and are valid for eligible voters, including those married to foreigners, studying, working or undergoing medical treatment abroad; and dependants of these persons.
This offer only applies to those whose names appear in the last electoral register of Malta or the EU.
Reservations can be made at an Air Malta call centre on 2364 5320 for overseas calls and on 2364 5320 for local calls.

The only reason these people don't vote through the Internet, is only about statistics... When the Statistic results for the Inbound and outbound tourism for the month of June 2009, come out, it will show SO MUCH % of increase of People visiting the Island, thus making believe that finally Tourism has started it's way up again.
All this will change when one day, when Tourism would have started it's way up.

@ John Xuereb. It's not a duty...it's an individual's privilege.

To JOhn (2)
What I wrote about the crew has nothing to do with it.
What I wrote is about the dog and it's master. (Airmalta & the Government).
And who elects the Government?
To Mr. Gouder.
WE have to make up for the losses incurred, as usual.
To the Government and the rest. Parliament included.
When are you going to stop this and make voters who live abroad vote via the internet as this is a very absurd way of voting!
Probably I know why as in your hunger and greed for power there is no trust among yourselves.
Move in with the times.
Just check those who come to Malta to vote if they really voted or were around the polling stations on voting day. But on the otherhand you can't do that as that would be spying or infringing citizens rights. Now do you get my drift?
€35 for a 4 day break. Very cheap!

In this day and age of the computer/internet, WHY DOES ANYONE HAVE TO FLY TO MALTA TO VOTE? Why isn't all this done by computer from all over the world. Helloooooo, government, why the extra expense? Voting by computer is just as safe and just as efficient as being there unless you have ulterior motives? Spare the Maltese citizens the expense.

Do you realise they supplied the same number for both local and internation calls?

Dear Phillip
For your information, Air MAlta has had discounted flight fares from Brussels to Malta for over two months now. Secondly when you call to book your flight to come to Malta to do your duty, the first thing they check is whether or not these flights were already fully booked or not. This means that Airmalta kept its focus on attracting tourists to Malta as a priority.
Therefore your argument falls. The services you get from Airmalta is worth much more than the full price you pay. I think we should be thankful to all Airmalta cabin crew who have to pull up with people like yourself on everyday basis.

Whilst I agree that cheap tickets are good idea, I would like to know whether it is the Government or AirMalta that is paying for this subsidy? Will this contribute to AirMalta making a loss? Who is to pay for such subsidies?

A warning to the other normal full paying passengers.
Do not use AirMalta during this time as you shall be relegated to 2nd class passengers having no option to chose your date of return. This is due to the fact that flights coming in from Brussels in teo or three days prior to the election would be declared all booked up.
Cheap tickets holders (those who work abroad) have more rights than you. As this is a directive that comes from straight from Castille.
At the same time a number of them do not come to Malta to vote but a short trip to visit their families.
Thus they are breaking the conditions of the cheap tickets idea.
I am writing this as I suffered all this before the Referendum and Airmalta could not come up with a satisfactory solution to give me half a ticket. All they could up with an upgrade.
My complaint should be found in the Airmalta offices unless the person who was supposed to be in customer care ( actually he ler his boss handle my complaint) didn't tear it up. I know who these two 'gentlemen' are.
