Man armed with knife, hammer, steals hotel lobby cash
A man armed with a knife and a hammer stole some €300 from the Porto Azzurro hotel lobby last night.
The police said the incident happened at about 1.15 a.m. at Triq ir-Ridott, St Paul's Bay.
The man entered the hotel and demanded money from the receptionist. He then forced open a drawer and stole the cash, before running out.
The receptionist, a 59-year-old man, was not injured.

How foolish can some people be .... What does the Government and their promises have to do with a man walking in a hotel with a knife and a hammer ?????????
I am not trying to defend any political party .... but these things will unfortunately always happen no matter who is in government !!!!!!!!

"F'darek, f'pajjizek mohhok mistrieh" was the PN promise a few years back. What happened to this promise. Has it evaporated into thin air like the promise of " the doctor of your choice".
Is Dr. gonzi still committed to these promises?

Pretty amazing how foolish/desperate some criminals are.
Committing armed robbery for 300 euros, and if the night porter had resisted, then maybe even murder for 300 euros !
All hotels should have CCTV all over the lobby, to record the whole thing - then if the perpetrator is not masked then maybe he can be identified, caught and given the usual suspended sentence.
An electric door lock is readily available, where the night porter merely has to check out who wants to enter ,and then press the button if they are OK or pick up the phone if they are not.

Sincere solidarity to those involved, however one word of advice to Mangement instruct night staff to bolt the outside door during the early morning hours. If the culprits are faced with such obstacles they normally surprised (shocked) and normally flee.................
Most reception desks are situated opposite the Hotels Entrance and hence are so easy for the night reception attendant to see arriving clients and let them in manually during the early hours.
With the exception of the night arrivals, the number of residents wanting to gain access at that time of the night is very limited.
I am talking from experience.
