Aviation, informatics, engineering and pharmaceuticals are the four major areas which Malta Enterprise sees as the most promising for new investment in Malta, Investment Minister Tonio Fenech told Parliament in reply to a parliamentary question by Anthony Agius Decelis (PL).

The new investment being sought would be both new operations by foreigners in Malta and expansion of projects already in Malta.

Answering another question by Carmelo Abela (PL), Minister Fenech said in the first quarter of this year, Malta Enterprise had approved assistance to six enterprises for start-up or expansion. These were in the ICT, aviation, engineering, electronic and food sectors.

There were eight other projects currently being considered for start-up assistance in the ICT, engineering, aviation, maritime sectors, as well as medicinal products including machinery.

Minister Fenech added that the latter requests for aid had been presented to Malta Enterprise in the past two months. There were five other projects in the recycling sector which were also being considered.
