SECF heats for gold and silver classes

Kamis de l'Eveche triumphs

Heats from the SECF Championships for French trotters in the Bronze and Copper classes got underway on Friday evening and continued yesterday when other races from the Gold (Prix d'Enghien) and Silver (Prix de Cabourg) divisions were run at Marsa.

Apart from these races, the card yesterday also included a Premier class race on 2,140m. This event, however, had no connection with any competition. The afternoon programme also featured a Monte test race over the short 2,160m distance.

In the Premier class race, Salvu Vella managed to put Kamis de l'Eveche in the lead a lap from home to cross the finishing line first ahead of Bello Fratello and James de l'Iton.

Kamis de l'Eveche registered a remarkable average of 1'14.7'' per kilometre.

The first Gold race on the card was won by L'Ideal de Fersan, controlled by Carl Caruana. This trotter increased its pace considerably along the last 200m, leaving Lucky Jack and Krac De Perran, second and third respectively, well behind.

Veteran driver Frenċu Cassar got the best out of Litchi du Vivier along the final 400m for this horse to clinch victory in the second Gold race of the day. Intrus des Rioults and Let's Go Dance were second and third in that order.

Victory in the other Gold race in programme went to David Ellul's Kiton de Bouere after taking the lead at the start of the last lap. Kiton de Bouere was followed by Kaprius du Perreux and Kaki du Vivier.

Only four from the 12 registered horses took part in the Monte race (trotters with drivers on horseback instead of sulkies).

The race was won by Oliver Briffa's Falco.
