AD on its way to winning MEP seat - Cassola
AD was on its way to winning a seat in the European Parliament, chairman and MEP candidate Arnold Cassola said.
Addressing an EP elections campaign activity he said that AD had a very good fighting chance, even more so now that Malta would probably get six seats in the European Parliament.
He said that surveys quoted by The Sunday Times today gave 56 to 57 percent to the PL and 40 percent to the PN.
“This anonymous survey is very difficult to believe. So according to The Sunday Times, all other parties will get just over 3.5 percent,” he asked.
Prof. Cassola said that The Sunday Times failed to report that AD’s share of the vote in scientific polls was increasing.
“The reality is that scientific polls show that AD is on its way to win a seat in the European Parliament. We can do it. Yes we can. Malta needs a third voice in the European Parliament. Pluralism will show that Malta is a serious and modern country.”
Prof. Cassola also referred to statistics about the state of the family that one out of four children were born out of wedlock.
AD wanted to strengthen the family by investing in counselling services, but social reality had to be faced.
“AD will push for a resolution in the EP for divorce to be recognised in Malta so that those who choose can build a new family should they wish to. We will also work for the recognition on pension and inheritance rights for various forms of cohabiting couples.”
MEP candidate Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros spoke of the need of childcare facilities.
She said that schools were closed after 2.30 p.m. With some investment these could be used to provide childcare facilities.
“We must make an effort to reach the Lisbon criteria”, she said.

I for one will vote for AD. The environment and conservation has always been a political football for the larger parties but AD have always been consistent in its policies in this area.
If only to get rid the political threats FKNK put on before every election to hold the whole population at ransom for their selfish ends. That in itself would already be a big win for the greens.
Sorry Alan Deidun, is under the PN flag and although he has environmental credentials, he would be roped in by the 'boss' as soon as the first environmental conflict comes up.

Mr. Mangion, had AD really embraced core Green values and stood staunchly by those values, perhaps AD would be in a much more 'winning' position so to speak.

Voting for AD would be advantageous for the Maltese as it would mean that we have an MEP representing us within the Green grouping in the European Parliament. It is a group which has consistently defended important issues which are pertinent to Malta. Green MEP Lambert had drawn up the report calling for compulsory burden-sharing which the EP voted on some time ago.

For AD voters, obtaining a seat in European Parlament or Maltese Parlament, is of relative relevance.
The good thing about voting AD is THE FACT, that following any major election, (at the time when promises start to be broken in the most blatant of fashions) one can sit down callmly and say the himself, " It's not my fault. I was no nutty nitwit ! I was not fooled. AD never made impossible promises. "

Why should the people elect an AD candidate when AD is against detention of illegal immigrants and more than 60% of the people (according to ToM polls) are considering immigration to be the hottest election topic?
There is one an only consistent candidate out of all who has voiced his concerns long before the issue became a national crisis. He was mocked by the media but time proved him right. I'm referring to Mr. Lowell.

PN/PL are talking yet about the 6th seat - but Dr. Cassola 'knows' he is going to get the 6th seat. Did you lose your precious time looking into the crystal ball by any chance??? As regards to Mrs. Arqueros - Child care centres are needed not only after 2.30pm but during the whole day as most people work in the morning - i don't know if Mrs. Arqueros is aware of this. Also I would like to ask Mrs. Arqueros about which criteria is she talking about for reaching the Lisbon criteria. I'd be more than happy to know, provided she knows it herself.

It would be very optimistic for the AD (or any of he smaller parties) to get an MEP elected.
Which is a pity, since if we had a green MEP in the European Parliament he would have been influential in ensuring that the PN government would not drive us into the mess we our today. On many counts the Greens have been found to be right and to have had the foresight that is so evidently lacking in the other big parties.
But to hope that the population can see beyond the big parties' propoganda and issues being hyped out of proportion by the far-right is a long shot indeed.

The Maltese are going to vote for that man that said the total opposite of what your party stood for on immigration. After all, he is more green then you are because he is also radical with what to do with buildings. That is, drop them. He does not drive a car and uses his walking stick. Anyway, the cherry on the cake was about what we should do with our SAR area. I better not write it, it might lose you to many votes, to those that protect our country.
