Light bulb vouchers coming soon
The vouchers with which one would able to get the energy saving bulbs are being distributed to families in the coming weeks, Resources Minister George Pullicino said this morning.
Speaking during a visit to De La Rue he said that the government was investing €4 million on this scheme and would be distributing over a million bulbs.
One to two person families would get five bulbs, three to four person families eight bulbs and families with more than five people 10 bulbs.

If my calculation is right, these energy savers are costing the country about one euro each. Well if this goverment had any sense about saving the state some moneyit would have done better going to John Lewis UK and bought its stock for a much lower price. I bought some for the princely sum of 37 new pence each. As usual we have a goverment whose motto is "money no PROBLEM" so long as its not their own money.

I hope that the minister will distribute LED bulbs at least and not Mercury ones. Who want mercury bulbs nowadays? These are no longer in demand. I doubt if any of the European countries still put them on their shelves. Mercury bulbs have toxic waste so they are not eco friendly either. They must have been given to the government for free. Hehe very funny to be getting them just before the elections.!!!! Are there people out there so gullible as to vote because they are given some five cheap light bulbs?????

"One to two person families would get five bulbs, three to four person families eight bulbs and families with more than five people 10 bulbs"
Is this an exam question, I am sure I had one like this somewhere between the ages 10 to 11 years old: Your starter for ten is: "How many bulbs does a family with five persons get".

Ridiculously laughable!!! These things still happen only in Malta. We should include this with the list of records that Government is accumulating across the EU and Euro zone. So just to name a few, least increase in wages, highest deficit, highest increase in fuel prices, highest increase in cost of living.etc etc and dulcis in fundus, highest number of free bulbs provided :)

I had invested in LED bulbs which consumes much less then the normal energy savers bulbs. LED bulbs around 3 watts, energy savers around 15-20W. Anyone could find the bulbs on ebay at a lower price. Can someone tell me from where the €4 million are coming? What a shame in the small island.!! Heard that they will invest in a new power station is that right? And then I heard Simon Bustill saying they will invest in wind turbines and other energy saving sources. And they are doing opposite what Simon said. When we are going to improve and change our mentality? Politics should do it first.

I was in Scotland early March and Morrison's Supermarket was selling energy saving bulbs
(and a good & well known brand) at 50pence every five bulbs. And this Government of ours
has been dragging this for so long. Disgrace

All of you writing here do not seem to realise that this is in fact a Structural Funds project that was adjudicated last July (project 88 - check it out on the ppcd.gov site). These projects take over a year to start from the time that they they are chosen. This is because mainly due to heavy bureaucratic processes involved both by the EU as well as the Maltese government (see David Casa's comments a couple of weeks ago). So now the Maltese government has received the go-ahead for the distribution of these bulbs - so for once it has nothing to do with elections.

Dawn il bozoz iridu jergu jinbidlu fi zmien 5 snien. (2013)
EU biex tehles mill miljuni li hemm ordnati u imhallsin iddecidew li il pajjizi kollha ta EU (u anke li mumiex) jiehdu dawn l-bozoz GRATIS biss ihallsu in-nol. u jitqassmu minghajr ebda

THANK GOD FOR ELECTION TIME !!!!!
At least it is the only period in the year when the state delivers positive things and all that was promised in the previous election.
Pity the period after the election we receive only bills, new taxes and levies and increases in tariffs !!!!!
Remember the utility rates, the gas prices and the inflation rates. This is what we shall be getting without control during the next months.

The distribution of bulbs is very comic. It is based on the number of persons in the household. Five bulbs for 1 to 2 persons. If they live in one room they have for a good number of years service. If their house is three roomed they have 2 bulbs in reserve.
If the family consists of 4 and live in a four roomed or five roomed house they are in the same position of family of two living in a two roomed house.
But the powers that be have had to take a decision never mind the family living conditions.
Perhaps it would have been better to didtribute the same number of bulbs to all the families, since the distribution is gratis and not based on finances of the household.

Investing in mercury, someone is getting rich. Well done Pullicino! Whilst the rest of the world is moving to LED technology Pullicino just discovered the "energy saving" light bulbs! Hallina man! I already dumped CFLs for LEDs. €4 million down the drain.
