Rather than living by faith in God's words on marriage, we often establish our own customs and (new) traditions and fall short of God's intention.

Some try to make themselves acceptable in God's sight, while ignoring His words and laws. Yet, we can never substitute the righteousness that God offers us through faith in His established marriage laws.

This law is referred to in Deuteronomy, 24: 1 because in Moses's time, the practice of marriage fell far short of God's intention. So the same true fact applies today.

Yet, Jesus said that Moses provided this law only because of the people's hearts but, in fact, God's intention was that He wanted husband and wife to have a permanent marriage. Because of a sinful human nature, this made divorce inevitable and we are placing God's intention aside.

To abide by God's law, a person would have to live in marriage as God planned for us, by first and foremost forgiving one another whenever quarrels come up between the couple; by praying together; reading and studying God's Word (the Bible) [Colossians 3:16-17]. Are you helping to unify the body of Christ, the Church? You can also pray for others, avoiding gossip or talk against others, as many do!

So are you helping others keep their faith, or working together in humility? Do you give some of your time and money to any good causes? Are you taking time together to educate your children in the Catholic faith, or are they too busy doing other things but not seeking God in prayers and faith?

Are you leaving your children alone on the internet or watching films on satellite TV? Are we avoiding sins within one's family? Otherwise, why did God give us such laws not to be observed, since He knew that humans couldn't keep them?

Yet God is always ready to forgive us, so why don't we do it His way?
