Raymond Ellul, who runs the Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) atmospheric research station at Ta' Ġordan lighthouse in Għasri is leading a project to upgrade the facility by the end of this year, using EU structural funds.

Prof. Ellul, head of the Atmospheric Research Unit of the Physics Department at University, recently presented a paper at the quadrennial (GAW) meeting held at the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) in Geneva.

The paper was entitled 'Summarising a 12-year study of atmospheric pollution in the central Mediterranean - The way forward'. Prof. Ellul also chaired the working group on 'Network coverage and quality, role of supersites for testing new methodologies and techniques'.

Prof. Ellul will be giving a lecture at the Gozo Ministry, St Francis Square, Victoria, on May 29 at 7 p.m. He will be summarising the past 12 years' work carried out by the University as the responsible Maltese academic entity appointed by WMO to run the GAW station at the Ta' Ġordan lighthouse.
