A donation for the rebuilding of Abruzzo, where an earthquake claimed more than 300 lives a few weeks ago, has been presented to Italy’s ambassador to Malta Paolo Andrea Trabalza by Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg.

Donations have also been given local councils who have a twinning agreement with Italian towns and villages.

The donations were presented during a concert yesterday evening by the Gozitan choir ‘Schola Cantorum Jubilate”.

Maltese citizens living in the area were traced by the ministry and confirmed safe and in good health, albeit living in emergency facilities. The Embassy of Malta kept in contact with them and offered them all possible assistance.

Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Franco Frattini, through a letter, showed his appreciation towards Malta’s solidarity with the victims.

The letter, presented last month by the Italian Ambassador to Malta Paolo Andrea Trabalza thanked the Maltese government and the citizens of Malta for the solidarity shown.
