There is a lot of sophism and no strong action. First of all we must sort out refugees from illegal immigrants. Secondly, we must accept the fact that Libya is facing a mega problem. Thirdly, we must not let refugees be used as human shields for human traffickers and criminals.

It would make sense if the EU, the UN and Libya were to jointly open an agency to help the refugees. It would not be a bad idea to open schools and training centres to enable the refugees to maintain themselves and this would bring dignity to them. We are not at the time of Moses; people should not live in the open or in tents. In my opinion, Malta should offer a helping hand to Libya in offering a quota for people to be reinstated with human warmth in a civilised society.

On the other hand, we must not waste our armed forces' energy to "mother" the camps. With today's technology we should pin point where the disposable boats are being manufactured and then the agency should wipe out their factories.

Our courage should be to help the refugees and not to have a political showdown. It should be made known to all that Malta never colonised any country.
