Libya can process asylum applications - ambassador
Libya's ambassador to Italy has said that the processing of asylum applications in his country was possible, Italian media has reported.
An Italian newspaper reported the Libyan ambassador Hafid Gaddur saying that people who wanted to work could do so in peace in Libya as long as they did not commit any crimes. He pointed out that in Tripoli there were embassies from all over the world where one could turn to in case of problems. There was also representation of the United Nations.
Malta has proposed the setting up of an agency and checkpoints in Libya where asylum seekers would be able to apply for protection. This proposal is backed by Italy.

So Libya would be processing asylum seekers. What criteria would Libya be using? It seems that everyone can qualify to be an asylum seeker nowadays.
Also, so they do not come to Malta, but what would be stopping them to come to Malta once they saturate Europe?
It seems to me that the EU, and the NGO's are hell-bent to destroy Europe by introducing 'multiiculturalism'. Big mistake.
If you want peace in this world, it would be better served for big business and corporations to stop exploiting their fellow man and for EU and other government to give concrete support to these countries to develop, within the context of their cultures.
Making everywhere a hotch-potch of people with different cultures and ethnic backgrounds destroys the variety that made for instance going to Holland and see the Dutch with their windmills and wooden shoes, to Africa to see the unique cultures there, so intersting. Destroying the myriads variety both in human culture and plant and animal life will leave everyone and future generations that much poorer. And once these cultures are destroyed, they are forever lost to posterity.

Few days ago we were criticizing the Italians and now we are applauding them because they have been proved right by their actions. Wake up Malta follow their example. Maltese Citizens are fed up now, we cannot take any more of this.

So we should expect Frontex to send back ALL the boats they manage to intercept, as no human rights would be violated since those that are truly fleeting persecution can find refuge in Libya.
I would also like to understand why our Government has never brought this very important fact to anyone’s attention.

@Sandro Pace
Exactly my thoughts. I do not believe that Carm is the ideal Minister to run our immigration and asylum system. I am not saying he is not trying but certainly we need someone like Maroni who does NOT take any notice what the NGO's and the UNHCR say. There are detrimental to the national interest of the recipient country. Carm is not negotiating anything with Libya and as Sandro Pace rightly says he is waiting for Maroni to take him to Libya. Carm has nothing to offer to Libya either.
But as from today we should not expect any more illegal immigrants because the Italian and Libyan 'boats' start to patrol the entire Libyan coast to stop these criminals from crossing. Does anyone really think no more illegal immigrants as from today??? Let me know your thoughts! I am sure that all is under control under Carm and Dr Gonzi!!!!

This news is irrelevant to Malta, as long as it does not insist on a repatriation agreement with Libya. If Malta has nothing to negotiate with (something which I do not believe), it shall use the clout of the EU, so much hyped before the referendum. But which emerged to be just a bubble which many swallowed.
Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici is waiting for Maroni to take him to Libya with Barrot. Probably he will wait forever, cause the Italians already got what they want.

Libya can process asylum applications
There you have it. So there is no longer any excuse to let illegal immigrants into Malta. There is nothing now stopping Dr Gonzi from sending all back to Libya.

Are you listening JRS?
Are you listening all NGO's and others who defend the ILLEGAL immigrants?
GONZI SEND THEM ALL BACK TO LIBYA.

Whilst agreeing that there should be checkpoints in Libya, I am not sure whether it's wise to set up an agency which could facilitate the process of immigration. Having to cross the Mediterranean is a deterrent in itself, and should this 'hurdle' is removed so to speak, more potential migrants could be tempted to apply.
If all Somalians are eligible for asylum protection, that would mean approx 10 million can easily get their way to Europe. Noting that the current fertility rate is 6.52 children born/woman (2009 est.), the problem is bound to increase.

The Libyan ambassador is quoted as saying ' that people who wanted to work could do so in peace in Libya '. So why the exodus to Europe? Any difference in earning a living in Libya to earning a living in Europe? What sort of 'protection' are these people seeking?

This good news must be shocking to those that accused Libya that asylum seekers was not possible to process applications in that country, and to some goodies that call others racists.

This proves that all the illegal immigrants who come to Malta from Libya are all economic migrants. They have no right to stay here as they all had been living in Libya before coming here and apparently Libya is safe for them even offering them work and protection. This statement by Libya's ambassador says it all. I hope the NGOs will now leave us to continue with our lives doing what we think is best for our own country.

HALLELUJAH!
This is the ONLY way forward. It should have been done way back, after the FIRST boatloads had landed. That way we would have saved all the useless loss of life, all the suffering by the migrants, and the burden by the countries they go to.
Now, to move a step forward! Why don't we reach and agreement with Italy, Libya, and the EU etc..., that ALL future illegal migrants who cross the Med ARE TAKEN BACK and processed there? Only that way will it be possible to beat the traffickers who make big cash, not giving a hoot whether the migrants arrive or not. I actually believe that if they do not arrive safely, the traffickers are probably happier....less persons who might uncover their identity.
The main problem isn't the migrants themselves, but THOSE WHO SEND THEM!! If, with all those Embassies in Libya, we keep accepting them (without sending them back), we will be playing into their hands. We must hold firm to see the results in the long term.

About two months ago I wrote on one of your blogs. I stated that the illegal immigrants should be sent back to Libya and genuine refugees should apply to the embassy of their choice for refugee status. Once this is granted they do not need to enter Europe Illegally. For some reason my letter was not published. Probably because two months ago this would have sounded discriminatory and now it is not?
On a different note the muslims were not allowed to pray at their Ghar id Dud flat because they had no permission to do so and not because they were muslims. I cannot turn my apartment into a bar without permission so I do not see why the muslims can turn an apartment into a Mosque without permission.
