St Anne Square in Sliema, the site that used to house the recently demolished Magic Kiosk, will be graced with a fountain and not a kiosk, Resources Minister George Pullicino announced today.

Speaking during a visit to the works accompanied by Lands Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, Mr Pullicino said that the government was committed to return to the people a beautiful square in the heard of commercial Sliema. He thanked Dr Azzopardi for his work to bring to an end the occupation of the square by the structures which had existed until a few weeks ago.

The minister said that the government had modified its plan to set up an 11-jet fountain, instead of a kiosk in this square. This would create an open space for relaxation. The kiosk, the minister said, would be incorporated in plans being prepared for the Sliema seafront.

Dr Azzopardi recalled the occupation of the square until a few months ago. Removing the structures which had been occupying the space had not and the occupiers had hoped the government would lack determination.

But the Courts proved the government and the Lands Department right.
