The Fuel Girls, a sexy supporting act to this weekend's Masters of Dirt motocross show at Ta' Qali, have been asked to cover up a bit more of their flesh than they usually do abroad.

"The Girls' outfits were modified to guarantee a safe environment for all the family... without compromising on the energy these artists will provide on the night," said Eman Pulis, the local coordinator of the event.

It is unclear what the organisers considered to be unsafe about the act exactly but while the show has been promoted as something of a family outing, everything suggests the girls' niche market is more on the mature end of the age spectrum.

Pictures of the Fuel Girls naked, or almost, and videos of them gyrating tantalisingly posted on the show's website, in fact, jar with the family friendly pitch.

Still, the promoter said he had not received any negative feedback from parents worried by the idea of taking their children to a show in which a team of fire-eating young women provide an erotic distraction to the death-defying motocross stunts of the Masters of Dirt.

He gave his assurance that the Malta show will be "safe", although he would not say what changes have been made to the girls' costumes.

"Those with a ticket in hand will have the pleasure to witness first hand the spectacle that the riders, musicians, fire girls and rest of the crew will provide..."

But despite the assurances, it may not be easy for the girls to pull off some kind of sanitised Maltese version. After all it's in the job description for the girls to be "naughty".

Applications for girls to join the fiery group require candidates to have "masses of sex appeal and an individual twist... tattoos, dark hair, punk rock and glamour in equal measures... saying yes... mischief and naughtiness."

The show, which runs from today till Sunday at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre, will bring together top bikers from all over the globe, combining freestyle motocross with stunts on BMX, Minibikes and even Quad Bikes.

Bikes, dirt, fire and loud pumping music will be the recipe for the adrenalin-filled show, titled as Europe's biggest motocross performance.

The venue will host 4,000 people around the perimeter of the performance area.

All seats will be elevated and the floor area filled with heaps of dirt according to specifications.
