A 29-year-old woman was fined €1,700 and had her driving licence suspended for three months after admitting to seriously injuring two people and damaging another car in an accident.

The court heard that Rhonda Zammit had had an accident on the Coast Road in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq in July 2006 hitting a Toyota Vitz with her Peugeot 206 causing both cars to lose control.

The Toyota’s driver, Mary Chetcuti, was seriously injured and one of Mrs Zammit’s passengers - David Whitton had spent days in danger before his condition improved and he was eventually released from hospital the following September.

Before handing down the sentence, the court took into consideration the accused’s early admission of guilt and her clean police record.
